PROOFING INKS
UNIVERSA® 6800
DIN 16 539 / ISO 2846
Our new generation of process inks for sheet-fed offset printing requires an appropriate set
of proofing inks which, when used in flat-bed presses with cooled bed, permit to largely
simulate the result of the press run.
The concept presented here consists of three series of highly transparent process inks which
are adjusted to identical viscosity and tack. The dot gain corresponding to practical conditions
is achieved with different pigmentations. The basic formulation corresponds to the
pigmentation of the European scale DIN 16 539 / lSO 2846. The pigmentations of the other two series
are each graduated to produce 3 to 5 per cent higher densities in the middle tone. This method
brought better results than the adjustment of consistency by the addition of pastes or oils.
However, proofing conditions may change from day to day. This occasionally requires to mix
differently pigmented inks. Normally this will not cause any problems.
The proofing inks are of course formulated to prevent skinning, even during prolonged breaks.
Experience has shown that the addition of 2 to 3 per cent HYDROFIX-S 8061 09 to the
damping fluid keeps the plate wet for a longer period and protects against corrosion.
